The Social Energy Management System SEMA is a platform that combines smart home monitoring, social networks and game-based incentive concepts.

Using SEMA, the consumption and generation of electricity, cooling and heating in households, offices, buildings and districts can be made more flexible in a playful way and adapted to the needs of modern energy systems. SEMA combines proven approaches to energy management with current concepts from the field of gamification, allowing citizens to playfully become players in the energy transition.

At the heart of SEMA is a mobile semaApp, the infrastructure of monitoring devices with an energy management gateway semaHome and the backend solution semaCommunity, which provides the community-specific services.

Gaining flexibility with intrinsic motivation

  • Game-oriented incentive concepts (gamification)
  • Social energy community to make energy demand more flexible and support energy efficiency
  • sema users receive a points-based incentive for
  • Adjusting energy consumption to the generation of renewable energies
  • Adjustment of heating to user presence/demand
  • Users can compare themselves via rankings and are thus motivated to behave as efficiently as possible.

Advantages

  • Ideal for sensitizing users and tapping into new flexibilities (e.g. electric vehicles)
  • Addressing intrinsic motivation and gamification increases customer loyalty
  • Competitive conditions can be easily adapted to changes in market conditions etc.
  • Can be implemented and ported to various measurement concepts
