FiLeNE

Modular Power Converter Platform for the Energy Transition

The FiLeNE research project is developing a scalable and modular multipurpose platform for modern power converter systems. Thanks to comparable power and voltage ratings, it is designed to be used for both grid-connected electrolysis rectifiers and photovoltaic and battery inverters.

The goal of the project is to make power conversion technology in the medium-power range significantly more cost-effective, reliable, and durable. At the same time, the project aims to meet new requirements for a secure and sustainable energy supply.

Technology and Components

FiLeNE takes a holistic approach to development: New technological and system innovations are intended to enable economies of scale across various applications. At the same time, key components of power conversion technology are being further developed, tested, and evaluated until they reach the functional prototype stage.

The focus includes, among other things:

  • Inductors
  • Current sensors
  • Power semiconductors

By combining modular system architecture with optimized individual components, FiLeNE lays the foundation for high-performance and cost-effective power conversion solutions for photovoltaics, battery storage, and electrolysis.

Impact

FiLeNE contributes to making renewable power systems more cost-effective and widely applicable. A key enabler is the expansion of medium-voltage applications for power conversion technologies. Higher voltage levels can enable lower currents at the same power output, thereby reducing material and installation costs across the entire system.
