SimBench-Sektor – simulation database for the consistent comparison of innovative solutions in the field of network analysis, network planning, and network operation management
SimBench-Sector is a joint project in the 7th Energy Research Program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Project partners are the Gas- und Wärmeinstitut Essen e.V. (GWI) and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (HBRS). The project will run from June 1, 2023, to May 31, 2026.
In SimBench-Sector, a data set is to be developed based on the results of the SimBench research project, which will enable realistic mapping of German electricity, gas, and heating networks. Innovative applications in the field of neighborhood development, the conversion of gas networks for hydrogen, or even cross-sector simulations make the development of gas and heating network components as part of a benchmark data set both sensible and necessary. In particular, future studies on coupled infrastructures in the context of the energy transition and its digitalization require consistent test networks in all sectors.
SimBench-Sektor aims to provide the research community with a consistent dataset as open data for a comprehensive description of Germany's grid-connected energy supply. In addition to its high spatial and temporal resolution, the innovation lies in the technically detailed modeling of the operating resources in today's grids, as well as in the modeling of innovative, future operating resources.
